The racing was fast and furious at the Pinewood Derby on February 10, 2024 as the Pack’s best racers competed for the fastest time on the track and for other derby prizes. Here are the results of this year’s Derby:

The Scouts built some incredible derby cars, incorporating sleek design with color, creativity, and their favorite characters.

Awards were given to Scouts in the following categories:

At our January 2024 Pack meeting, the Scouts learned how to conserve and repurpose many items they used every day. We asked parents to bring recycled materials from home and asked Scouts to create something new from them. The Scouts came up with many imaginative projects, from bird houses and movable mouse traps to robots and other inventions! Our Scouts definitely demonstrated the value of thriftiness, an element of the Scout Law, which was the focus of the meeting. Thanks to Cubmaster Steve Dean for this inspiring meeting!

Scouts and their families had a blast helping out at Operation Santa Claus on December 21, 2023. Operation Santa Claus provides presents and grocery gift cards to families with children throughout the Denver metro community. The Scouts used their extensive knowledge of toys to help people pick out the appropriate toy for each kid on a family’s list. Scouts, along with their parents, also helped families wrap presents. In addition, some Scouts and their parents got to help deliver the presents and grocery gift cards to the families. At the end, we got our picture with Santa Claus. A big thank you to Cubmaster Dean for organizing this service project.

In the spirit of community and generosity, the Arrow of Light (AOL) den of our Cub Scout Pack took a significant step in making a difference this holiday season. Following a successful and fun-filled Pack Bingo Night, our enthusiastic AOL scouts used the proceeds, nearly $500, to embark on a heartwarming shopping spree. Their mission? To purchase new toys for children who could use an extra smile.

Armed with the spirit of giving and a budget made possible by our supportive Pack families, the scouts ventured out, carefully selecting a variety of toys that would bring joy and excitement. Their adventure wasn’t just about shopping; it was a learning experience in budgeting, empathy, and community service. The culmination of this journey was a visit to a drive for the Boys and Girls Club of Denver, where our AOL den donated the toys. The excitement and joy in the air were palpable as they handed over the toys, knowing they were about to make a significant difference in other children’s lives.

Our scouts had a blast, not only in choosing the toys but also in understanding the value of giving back to their community. It’s moments like these that define the true spirit of Scouting — building character and skills while making a positive impact. We are incredibly proud of our AOL den and all our Pack members who contributed to this successful initiative. Here’s to more smiles, more acts of kindness, and continued community service!

Our Scouts had a blast at the annual Pack campout in September (16-17), held this year at Camp Cris Dobbins at McNeil Scout Ranch. Our Scouts participated in a variety of activities including an obstacle course, rock toss, gaga ball, BB guns and more. We ended the day with a chuck wagon dinner and campfire program.

Pack 620 set a goal this year of selling $7,000 in popcorn sales, a 40 percent increase over what we sold last year. Thanks to all the hard work of our Scouts who manned the tables at the King Soopers and Cabelas stores on the weekends and also sold online and door to door in their neighborhoods, we sold a total of $8,133! In addition, the Scouts raised $709 in donations. These funds will be used to purchase popcorn that will be donated to military groups and/or first responders. That brings the Pack’s total popcorn online, storefront, wagon, and donation sales to $8,842 for this year. Based on the Pack’s 35 percent commission, this year the Pack will receive a total of $3,094 from the sale of popcorn, which we will use to help offset the cost of BSA and Pack dues and other scouting activities. Thank you to families that signed up for Storefront Sales – 5 storefront dates brought in $5,634. Thank you to the families that jumped in and helped with wagon sales which helped close out our campaign! We had 7 Scouts earn Amazon gift cards. Lori Dean, our Popcorn Kernel, will release the cards once we close everything out with the Council.

Pack 620 collected food for St. Luke’s United Methodist Church’s food drive (Feeding of the Five Thousand) on Sunday, October 8, 2023. St. Luke’s provides their facility for our den and pack meetings and we are very grateful for their support of our Pack. Thank you to all the Scouts and families who donated food and helped with delivery to the church.
